Loving this new book from @meganjacobspalaeo.bsky.social A beautifully illustrated, engaging, and scholarly guide to the dinosaurs and other fossils of the Isle of Wight. This is the guide I wish I had when I started studying Isle of Wight fossils many years ago as a student!
So deeply happy & proud that The Story of Birds has soared onto the Sunday Times bestseller list in the UK during its first week of publication!!! Getting books onto bestseller lists is a total crapshoot. But it's clear to me there are two main reasons why it's happened here:
First is the amazing team @picadorbooks.bsky.social (including my editor Alpana and publicity director Meg) who have put enormous time into promoting the book, for months.
Thanks as always to my agent Jane and the team @marinerbooks.bsky.social who spearhead the editorial and production side of the books, particularly my editor Peter and publicity director Maureen!
The first tetrapods that moved onto land did not grow like today's amphibians. No larval stage, no metamorphosis, just little babies that grew directly into adults. As shown by fossils from Illinois!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and all who want to be one and all celebrating or missing their own dads!
We're always delighted to see a new book from our chum @stevebrusatte.bsky.social ! The Story of Birds, the "dinosaurs that live among us" is out now from @picadorbooks.bsky.social . #books #livres #NaturalHistory #evolution #birds #oiseaux
So the murderous Iranian regime keeps their nuclear program, gets $300 billion in reparations, controls the Straits of Hormuz & is no longer being sanctioned. At the cost of $100 billion+ to the US taxpayer & the lives of 13 American troops. WHAT? edition.cnn.com/2026/06/17/m...
Feeling very blessed! It’s Father’s Day and a sunny day in Edinburgh and The Story of Birds is on the Sunday Times bestseller list today! Alongside two fellow @picadorbooks.bsky.social authors & two of my favorite writers Douglas Stuart & Patrick Radden Keefe (fellow Marshall Scholar alum!)
Second & even more important, is YOU! The folks who actually read my books. These bestseller lists are all about sales, and during the first week a book comes out, the preorders all count for the week 1 sales figures. So everyone who preordered a copy this is because of YOU!

New in @science.org ...since our first discoveries of early tetrapods, they have been thought of as "amphibians" characterized by aquatic larvae. But is this true? For the first time, we report exceptional fossils of stem tetrapod babies that upend this paradigm. 1/n www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Modern amphibians are characterized by an aquatic larval stage that ends abruptly with a period of widespread tissue remodeling (metamorphosis) upon transition to terrestrial adulthood. A transient la...
