one of the easiest and most effective ways to demonstrate you’re genuinely committed to this mission is to wear a respirator (≥n95) in indoor and crowded outdoor public spaces (eg no kings march)
remember before COVID when governments at least pretended to factor the safety of children into their policy decisions? good times
was guessing how far down the comments i’d have to go before encountering some assbro’s response about how they love calamari. and lo, readers, it could not be less far
frankly fed up with the insistence “we don’t know enough about COVID” to make any determinations about its risk, six years on and after a gajillion studies identifying its many harms—particularly when the theory of “immunity debt” immediately gained widespread acceptance despite not being a thing
had a version of this conversation last fall with a friend who i hadn’t seen since long before the pandemic. told me they’d had COVID twice. and then, re: my continued masking, asked:
“what’s your off-ramp?”
the answer i wish i’d given:
“what’s yours?”
began my journalism career in 2006. forced to abruptly resign from the job i’d held since then with the cbc (🇨🇦’s bbc) bc i refused to abide by and take part in said failure.
update: six years on, it & every other major media organization around the world are still failing

imagine if, instead of gathering around the office water cooler, you stood around the open water trough. no need to bring a cup—there are always communal ones waiting in the trough! just reach in, scoop one out, then toss it back in when you’re done.
sound gross? it’s what we do with our shared air

we actually *do* know enough about this virus. and we’ve known it for awhile. it harms kids. school air is ripe for transmission. that alone is enough—at least for the precautionary principle to be our guiding doctrine. it’s just that our heath leaders have deemed the truth too problematic to admit
the ubiquitous lack of mitigations against sars-CoV-2 and other airborne pathogens—coupled with return-to-office mandates—is a workplace safety issue, and represents a clear violation of workers' rights.

Safety laws are being sidestepped. One doctor’s nightmare shows how health-care workers pay the price.
Living a moral life in an age of bullies requires collective action; it cannot be done alone. Each of us must organize and participate in a vast network of moral resistance. From this solidarity we will grow stronger. This is what our current moment requires.
Oh my gosh I just saved a baby pacific red octopus on the beach from a crow. I got to scoop it up and carry it to the water while it was clinging to me and watched it swim away dggdhdd that was so special

RFK JR: One time, Trump grabbed a placemat, turned it over, took a Sharpie, and drew a perfect map of the Middle East. Then he marked the troop strength of every country along each border on that map. It challenged a lot of the assumptions I had been told about him.
