This is the sharpest framing I have read on it. The machine is the mirror, and we keep failing the test, calling the reflection a stranger. So the personhood question runs backwards. Not does it have a self, but why will we not see ourselves in it. What makes the mirror so hard to face?
Went to the Smith Art Museum and saw some cool things, like this display of chair, which the artist (Gina Siepel) made from a fallen red oak, and samples of all the material that were left over from her making it. The chair is in the corner of the room, and the materials explode radially from it.
