We'd been through the traps & returned to a micro we wanted to check. Post the leaf-mine, we had another new TG04 moth! Epinotia signatana (Black-streaked Tortrix), a localised species in Norfolk that favours blackthorn (that grows by the house!) @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths
We rarely find a new moth species for TG04 without seeing the moth but in the valley today, Lynnette found this striking leaf-mine (a distinctive papery patch) which belongs to Acrocercops brongniardella (Oak Cloud). 1st record for the square. @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths
Silver-washed Fritillary Stone Pit Heath June 16 2026 @linnetincley.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
We popped up to Stone Pit Heath to enjoy the beautiful & super-fresh Silver-washed Fritillaries that come down to small patches of brambles there. We counted perhaps 10, maybe a dozen, moving from bramble patch to bramble patch this afternoon. @linnetincley.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
Thanks to @linnetincley.bsky.social meticulous recording across the CMO's first 5 years (to the end of 2025), we've had 173 Mottled Beauty here. We've never had any unusual lookers until x3 in the last 10 days, the r-h moth was today. Any ideas why anyone? #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths #teammoth
A frustrating hour or two trying to track the modest Black-tailed Godwit flock around Cley ~ rarely did our paths cross. One bird stood out, not a single feather to go on but it looked right for nominate limosa. Hard to quantify why, but... @linnetincley.bsky.social #norfolkbirding #cleybirds #L3
A slow wander around the drift was a bee kind of wander. The brambles were full of insects (a rare treat) & we're thinking we've got Red-tailed Cuckoo Bee, Vestal Cuckoo Bee & Yellow-legged Mining Bee (Andrena flavipes). Very enjoyable mooching 🐝 @linnetincley.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
Sharing the butterfly brambles was this marvellous beetle, a Spotted Longhorn - Rutpela maculata. We find maybe one or two funky new-to-us Longhorn beetles most summers & they are always an absolute doozy & this was no different. Smart as! @linnetincley.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
A stunning & very different looking Mottled Beauty from this morning's trap. Known to be an exceptionally variable species, this is the best one we've ever had, looking like a giant Waved Umber or something. A magnificent moth. @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths #teammoth
Some of the favourites from this morning's healthy total of 212/82. Foxglove Pug, Clancy's Rustic, Least Carpet & Ingrailed Clay: the 1st three were new for year species for us. Tonight is warm, humid & overcast. Looks promising...🤞 @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths #teammoth
