...a here's a snippet of the field on a blustery, showery lunchtime. Hopefully it gives the idea of the vastness of the incredible display...

Last night snuck up on us as a bit of goodie (cloud, some warmth) & we were v. happy with 256/82 from the traps. As well as the Arches, this July Belle stole the show, a surprise NFG for a species we generally see up on the heath.

Here's an everyday story of country moths ~ it's the Arches...
A brilliant Grey Arches (our 2nd ever & an absolute beast of a macro), plus a smart Light Arches & one of the paler (from eight in all) Dark Arches from today's traps.

Today's bug of the day (bug of the year!) was a diminutive shocking pink grasshopper (Short-horned Grasshopper sp.) found at Glandford. The unique colour is caused by erythrism - red pigment to the max. Would love to know a species if possible.

A wet end to the morning but sensational views of the stunning Glossy Ibis on the marsh ~ right in front of Daukes' Hide ~ made everything worthwhile. The smartest GI I've seen here since the May 1992 bird that dropped onto Bittern Pool & this one was closer too!

A big surprise this morning, after a chilly June night, was our 2nd ever L-album Wainscot, after L-ynnette had one l-ast September when I was away working, so this was a new moth for my Cley Moth L-ist. Very happy about this l-ittle grip back ๐

Pretty much at the warmest point of the afternoon (just before 4pm) the garden was graced by this NFY Yellow-legged Clearwing. Such a smart moth ๐

Sunny late morning on our butterfly survey patch. Over 200 seen (though only five species) with Meadow Browns & Painted Lady by far the commonest seen but great to see Large Skipper too. There were also day flying moths inc., Burnet Companion.
