And yes, I picked the E30 because it's nominally similar (I actually thought the Volvo was that brick-like Maserati at first, so it also lacks instant recognisability!) but uses the same basic ingredients so much better.
...the wheels are too small giving the car too much visual weight, the vertical front/rear facias also add visual weight, the rear door shut line looks odd following the B pillar, and the door handle floating in space looks less confident than the E30's does sitting on that character line.
