Putting this out there: I want to work on more literary translations and children's books next year! 10+ years of experience 400+ books translated 1 Batchelder Award winner 1 Eisner nominee 5 American Manga Award nominees ...including 1 nominee for Best Translation
The recollections I read for research from the Himeyuri women who survived will likely be the closest I'll ever get to knowing what happened to my grandmother's siblings, since they did not come out of the war to tell their stories
But once the remaining survivors are gone, the memories will be lost if they're not preserved in some form, and they're even less likely to be accessible in English
Yes! Read Cocoon, out tomorrow!
Also, cocoon is up for nomination with the American Manga Awards for Best One-Shot Manga. If you're eligible, I hope you'll consider voting for it to promote the book so more stories like it can be published in English animenyc.com/american-man...
