Men will literally blame any victim. No one’s off limits. These women have already done so much. They’ve endured abuse, torture, and threats. It’s been years, and they still don’t have the justice they deserve. There are so many blameworthy people in this story, and this guy still chose survivors.
I see this all the time now: Leftwing men who love to bring up the Epstein files, not because they care about survivors, but because it’s a good political weapon against the enemy party, nothing more. It’s a “gotcha” moment to feel clever online for their hundreds of thousands of followers.
Survivors are dehumanized and devalued once more through this process. If Epstein’s survivors want to speak up, that’s great. Lots of them already have and still are. They’ve been doing it for years before men like this knew Epstein’s name. But they don’t owe us anything. Actually, we owe them.
You want a world where survivors speak up? Get out there and build one. Make it so when survivors speak up, they’re believed the first time. Make it so when survivors speak up, they’re not retraumatized. Make it so when survivors speak up, they get the justice they deserve.
