People ARE stupid but you should do subtext anyway. You can spell it out as blatantly as possible and people will still willfully misinterpret it. I don't want all art to become shows for preschoolers, personally
I'm sorry I don't find "You shouldn't do subtext anymore because people are stupid" to be a particularly compelling argument
