Even accepting his definition of “learning” here means acquiring novel data, it’s notable that he doesn’t seem to think you can learn valuable things about YOURSELF. Also he’s flat wrong even then, as anyone who’s found the first record of a species in a particular range on iNaturalist can attest.
Finally, footage from that new whale graveyard. The fact that fossils and fresh carcasses mix together in this spot is bonkers. But of course it makes sense, because the scavengers that live down there also need a steady supply over millions of years. They can't just suddenly adapt to the deep.

Whale graveyard discovered 7km under the sea
Saw a local production of Spamalot with my 16 year old at the weekend. There's a show that feels beyond its use by date. Jokes about needing Jews in order to put on a musical made me cringe. Not to mention the very odd treatment of gay people.
