And same for journalists: is it possible to dedicate yourself to telling the truth about the world and not vocally oppose an administration that constantly undermines the truth? I also have decided, no.
Fantastic piece by @dereklowe.bsky.social. Feeds into an ongoing debate among scientists: is it possible to dedicate yourself to finding the truth about the real world, and not vocally oppose an administration that constantly undermines the truth? Is doing so political, or just being a scientist?

I think I'm putting "learn to play senet" on my to-do list for the year. Also look at how gorgeous this set is! My inner dice goblin is going bonkers for this even though it includes zero actual dice.

These ancient board games are utterly fascinating to me. Even if we can't (exactly) reproduce the rules (AFAIK), they're a reminder of how games have been a part of life for millennia. It shows that people are people -- across time as much as across borders.

A 3,400 year old Ancient Egyptian ‘Senet’ game board with gaming pieces. Senet is one of the earliest known board games. Popular in ancient Egypt, it was associated with the soul’s journey through the underworld and was often placed in tombs. Brooklyn Museum 📷 by me #Archaeology
