I'm a big College Radio Fan and you know you've heard a Certified Banger when it has like 50 shazams and can only be played after 10 PM due to FCC regulations
This is the ideal gaming setup. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
Here're some better pictures of that phone. It's actually quite a rare model (by US standards). Not sure they were actually used here.
More to come later! I do have the programming software for this phone. Got a copy of the manual for it. Need to figure out the VFD connector keying - it's got two more pins than the display does.
Opening it up, it's definitely still a payphone inside. This has an electronic coin validator, a 6V SLA battery or settings and a Smart Board in the back.
if your radio station doesn't start making use of safe harbor hours you need to find a new one
The board is an Elcotel 5502. This handles all the payphone features internally allowing it to operate off a regular phone line. That includes coin acceptance, rates, voice prompts, etc. Afaik this is about the last board they (Elcotel) ever made too.
This thing is an Elcotel Eclipse. It was sold as a competitor to the Nortel Millenium. Basically think of it as the Top Dog of what payphones could offer. You got a screen, credit cards, calling cards, options for data jacks. Compared to the old phones with just a keypad, it's a huge improvement.
The front door contains a lot of the "magic" so to speak. It's got the VFD display, card reader, dial pad, hook switch, etc.
Interestingly in the past someone disabled the card reader and VFD while it was in service. Both unplugged and the card reader cable nicely wrapped up.
