If you've been outdoors all weekend, you may just now be seeing new reports of crazy allegations against Brian O'Hara. Difficult to believe Mayor Frey didn't know there was a real problem when he renominated him.

The police department was $23M over budget this year.
This is such a dishonest corporate media frame of both side-ism. According to the (billionaire/Republican-owned) Strib "MN politicians" broke their promise to "soften their tone." Which totally ignores (and excuses ) that the ugliest, most violent rhetoric consistently comes from.......Republicans.
Another way to frame double dipping is FRAUD. MPLS police committing FRAUD in their hour reporting while going 10s of millions over budget seems like a big deal?
This is why all of you have a DUTY to stop paroting austerity language at the Federal level. The money is there. It's just not going to supporting life affirming institutions and programs.
Playing on their turf never ever wins, not morally, not politically. Here's a response: "this is a wedge issue targeting kids, getting into their doctors' decisions. Next, they'll come for your hysterectomy, your vasectomy. And it's because they can't talk about the economy." Say Fuck You back
MPD not only DIDN'T protect Minneapolis residents. MPD actively helped ICE get away with murder. At taxpayers' expense. While billing millions in over-time.
The Minneapolis Police Department is $23 Million Over Budget. How much is due to “double dipping” by Police Officers (who are basically committing fraud). Mayor Frey isn’t providing the oversight or leadership to prevent fraud in our city. A deep investigation is needed.
Amid contentious debates about public safety and immigration, many elected officials returned to the same sharp rhetoric that defined politics before last June 14.
What did Mayor Frey know and when did he know it? And then what did Frey do about it? Will the (Republican/billionaire-owned) Strib ask this or pivot to "O'Hara's gone. Time to move on and blame the City Council."? How would Strib have handled this if it was Mayor Betsy Hodges---or Omar Fateh?

Looking ahead to next year's budget, City of Minneapolis is projecting $28-33 million gap between expenses and revenues to maintain the current service level.
Minneapolis police officer Abdisamad Ahmed allegedly double dipped working off-duty and on-duty simultaneously. While unproven, the MPD has stalled for nearly a decade to prevent any transparent reporting of off-duty work hours. Everyone is negligent on this. Off duty work is a notorious mess.

The document contains myriad allegations, but city officials pushed back on its veracity.
Talarico saying he's against "gender reassignment surgery for minors" to lots of nodding and impressed gestures from the Barro/Yglesias crowd and a lot of the politics press is, I think, a great example of how much the well has been poisoned on trans healthcare
I’m not giving up on my beloved state, but you’ve got to do better.
Congress voted to give ICE and CBP another $70 billion through 2029.
"There is no question that this bill passing will make it incredibly difficult to reverse the creation of a huge deportation machine at the hands of President Trump,” @naynagupta.bsky.social tells @washingtonpost.com.
