Looking for a POSTDOC to work on jumbo phages (those with large genomes and fascinating cell biology), using our latest ASO technology (Gerovac M et al. 2025 Nature) to define RNA export mechanisms as well as to help to advance phage therapy. Here's the job ad.

Jumbo phages are bacterial viruses with large genomes, oversized icosahedral capsids and complex tail architectures. Here, the authors use cryo-EM to provide a detailed structural analysis of jumbo ph...

Bacteriophages are normally classified as either virulent or temperate. Reality is, of course, more complicated! Here we show many bacterial isolates contain non-temperate phages that can persist through restreaking. Thanks to all co-authors for such a great collaboration!

My friend Naftali Kaminski is an Israeli physician, a professor at Yale, and the child of Holocaust survivors. For me he is a model of absorbing his parents' stories intensely, looking the horror of the 20th century in the eyes, and drawing the lesson of radical empathy for the suffering of others.

Morgan et al. show that a phage-encoded protein functions as an antitoxin to counter DarTG2-mediated phage defense. They further explore the interplay between this anti-defense protein, the phage nucleus replication compartment, which encloses chimallivirus genomes, and the DarTG2 phage defense system.
