In any case, I'm struck by the incredible lack of accountability. No one acknowledged anything was wrong, and I expect to hear nothing in follow-up. The moderator will be able to continue treating more junior female colleagues this way and no one will say anything.
I care about the topic of the panel (Higher Education in Sudan since the war) but will definitely rethink agreeing to participate in future events organized by this university or the colleagues who put it together.
"Muzan’s ability to create space for new possibilities should not be one that we yield in this terrible moment. By carrying her sensibility with us, we might build that better world, one of which she would be proud."
I was pretty dispirited after last year's meeting. I have no plans to attend AHA's annual meeting this year, and may well have forgotten or decided not to renew my membership to vote. This email changed my mind: it's clear they're scared.
This same moderator outright forgot to give me time to answer questions despite attendees addressing questions to me directly, then cut me off and didn't give me time to answer all the questions.
Just spoke on a panel where the moderator addressed all other academics using their academic title (Dr/Prof) except for me, where he used my first name...
