Yes, indeed. Spectacle on its own is not what makes a story memorable. It needs to be in the service of character, event, emotion. Spectacle ain’t ideas, either.
Yeah. What I’d do (what I want) is the sort of thing I did in the comics. Maybe not as expen$ive now as it might’ve been back then. You might want flash, but constraints beget creativity. Point being, it really is the most flexible storytelling format of all time. (And space. As you know. 😁)
A doubtful scenario, but in daze like these when the environment changes so fast, I wouldn’t bet on anything. Low budget, tightly written, ideas-led scripts, serialised half-hours, made by a young, hungry production team is the way to go. Strong characterisation comes as a given with Who.
