liminality is the word to describe something hostile, unwelcoming, cold and uncomfortable, either on purpose or by its function, to keep you from staying there. Everyone knows kids don't go outside anymore because that describes EVERYTHING now- made to deter "loitering", ie, just fuckin existing
so while I think a large chunk of gen z and definitely gen alpha know liminal horror as a cool internet concept, the older half of gen z and millenials were there to experience those welcoming third spaces completely destroyed. lived-in coziness is now landlord greige, hostile architecture etc
the true horror of liminality is the realization that you as a person are not the focus of marketing or capitalistic society, you are barely more than a product now. Nobody cares about you or your comfort or health or happiness. You're what corporations trade, now. The whole world is liminal to you
true but I think it is even closer to the individual: it was pioneered by those who grew up seeing the erosion of the cozy 'third space' where you're welcome and people hang out. liminal horror is the exact opposite of these feelings, a reflection of what most of our lived reality is nowadays
...ngl, i think im just gonna go back to the open stream days. i play whatever, no set games.
