it seems the only rationale for jumping on the genai bandwagon is the fabricated fomo (not actual benefit to research) and this is not surprising tbh. the ai industry has poured millions into setting much of the ai "potential benefit” discourse

If we really wanted to deal with the negative effects of AI all tech workers, including CEOs etc. would require chartering by professional engineering bodies who could then de-charter them for working on ethically questionable projects.
