Superb film.
It’s one I revisit every so often, much like David Lean’s film adaptation of the also-brilliant OLIVER TWIST (1948), last watched about a month ago.
Lean is a remarkable director, Dickens novels or otherwise …

Saturday tune:
Stereolab’s upbeat sound cleverly disguises anti-capitalist themes—war’s death toll, economic struggles, loss of jobs and homes.
Call it Marxist pop or whatever you will.
I call it my favorite track by the British-French band.

When it’s 85°F outside it’s a good time to stay cool indoors and cook a bunch of food.
My contribution, a spicy chicken stir fry with lots of veggies.

Glad to see the #Knicks end a 53-year drought to win the #NBA title over the #Spurs.
Ahh, to be in NYC tonight.
First watch: BLACKOUT (1954, aka MURDER BY PROXY)
Twisty, rather muddled plot involving an American in London who awakens, after blacking out during a drunken night, to sort out his involvement with a rich heiress whose father was murdered overnight.

Black Metallic is hands down my favorite shoegaze track—a shimmering giant of a song that quiets down at one point only to emphasize the cathartic release of guitars that come crashing in just after the 6-minute mark.

...Hammer Films was barely passable for me, despite a few good scenes and a decent cast including Belinda Lee, 18 during filming, who died at age 26 in a car crash.
Maybe my timing was bad; some #noir fans love it.
In one year I'll likely suffer a blackout of my own trying to recall it. 😂
