Morning tune.
Marvin Gaye’s album What’s Going On is a masterpiece (a term I use sparingly) with themes of war, poverty, police brutality, discrimination and environmental destruction.
Still relevant 55 years on.

The Killing checklist:
• Marie Windsor steals every scene she’s in
• Kubrick establishes himself as an amazing director
• One of the best #FilmNoir ensemble casts ever
• Never put all your money in one place, especially a suitcase
What a thrill ride of a film!
… ambition, greed, bigotry (toward Native Americans) and virtuousness, CIMARRON seems like a well-intentioned but overblown, dull adaptation of the Edna Ferber novel.
A 1931 version of the film won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Rewatch: THE BAD SEED (1956)
Time to check in on sweet little blonde pigtailed Rhoda.
She’s only 8 years old. Surely she’s not the psychopathic, murderous little monster that some suspect she is, haha.
This one is always a fun psychological #horror diversion.

Another highlight: The Apartment, Michigan’s oldest LGBT+ bar (since 1972).
It’s a shotgun bar (no dance floor) with a high-energy vibe, a rainbow of patrons, super-friendly staff and patrons, music videos and an anti-hate message at the front entrance.

So many cities close enough for weekend road trips from Detroit.
Marvin and I chose Grand Rapids this time. Fun town!
Favorite nightspots: Bob’s Bar, a working-class dive bar (since 1937) with a lively vibe, good bar food, friendly staff and nonstop jukebox.
