D.J. MacHale. He’s mostly known now for YA fantasy, but he created Are You Afraid of the Dark? It inspired myself and a generations of others to embrace dark storytelling. I think we should be discussing him in the same breath as R.L. Stine. And he kinda blurbed my book!

I'm going to go with Diane Guest. I read her book Lullaby because I was doing a challenge where I had to read a book from the year I was born, and it was really good. I haven't read anything else of hers yet, but I would like to in the future.

Erm. Hmm. Uh. Welp. I.........don't know a lot of underrated horror creators from the 20th century. I mean...what is "underrated?" I really like Algernon Blackwood's story "The Willows" - good early weird horror there, but I don't know if it's "underrated." #horrorwriterschat
Thank you for this question. Florence Engel Randall is my spiritual predecessor. I credit her with really creating the cozy sci-fi horror template that inspired me. Though she never used that term. She was underappreciated in her time despite a film adaptation.
