An Eastern Common Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos golzii) from yesterday, NE Kazakhstan. What a strange looking bird!

And the star of the show: the Richard’s Pipit (Anthus richardi). We searched for the species along the Russian border, near where the birds that winter in Europe are breeding. Let’s see whether they all go east or west.

How many more years until breeding in the UK?! In my lifetime?!
Who uses an external mic to record bird sounds on their phone? Any gear recommendations? #UKBirding #BirdingGear
It’s barely mid-June and I have nearly ripe Yellow Rattle Seed in my front mini meadow! Also epic Vipers Bugloss display! #wildflowers
French birders are surveying possible Red-necked Nightjar habitat in southern France following a series of recent sightings of birds in the eastern Pyrenees, beyond the northern limit of its current known range:
We’ve also been sent some photographs this week from #LDV volunteer David Salisbury of two pairs of Oystercatchers nesting amongst solar panels near Aughton, with records of other pairs breeding around the reserve in the surrounding area on flat roofs on industrial estates🐣

A series of recent observations of singing Red-necked Nightjars in southern France has prompted growing suggestions that the species could be expanding its range northwards.
Nice to receive this record of a colour-ringed Oystercatcher seen in the Foggathorpe area by @duncbye.bsky.social this week – originally ringed in August 2009 as a first-year in Hampshire - next seen near Barnsley (April 2012) and Goole (April 2014) - likely to be breeding in the area.
A huge thank you to everyone who has made a donation to the Friends of the #LDV Aviva community fund 🤩 The target has already been smashed, with a new stretch target in place to allow even more to be delivered for Corncrakes and other wildlife 🐦
