To put it more bluntly: Epic aren't making an engine anymore, they're making the Fortnite platform.
Wanna make your own games? Go somewhere else. They want to kill Roblox.

There is almost nothing in this for me to get excited about. It sounds like they want everything to be always online and part of the Fortnite ecosystem. The only compelling part to me is that Verse's transactional nature might make robust save/load easier.
