Blaming a 4am start to the day, I should of course have written Military Orchid Orchis militaris!!
Surveying the wonderful Upwood Meadows NNR at the weekend - very excited to refind Heath-grass, last recorded from the site by renowned botanist Terry Wells in 1996!
Other highlights were sheets of Saw-wort and Dropwort, and several areas of Sulphur Clover

A very hot field trip with the Lincs Flora Group to Swinstead Valley yesterday - some great limestone grassland with Purple Milk-vetch, Horseshoe Vetch and Crested Hair-grass, plus a strong population of Stinking Chamomile in an arable field headland...

So happy to see that Turtle Doves have once again safely returned to the Maxey Cut and its surrounding landscape of former gravel workings that now support a rich mix of open water, flowery grassland, reed beds, scrub and willows...
