Smash the Back Lash, an historic march against racism and bigotry in 1987, saw 3,500 people protest Section 28, a law prohibiting the 'promotion' of homosexuality by local authorities. This was the first demonstration to highlight the intersection of race and sexuality and centre black gay people.
