Mmmm, cider with an aroma-combo of cooked cabbage, samphire and asparagus-piss. My favourite.
My read on this is that it's almost certainly a fermentation issue. It's a low ABV cider, so there isn't the usual level of yeast activity to drive off any sulphur byproducts — in particular dimethyl sulphide and methanethiol.
