Shifting focus to storytelling was a natural enough change; she developed with changes in art style, giving over fruit juice and ash for masks and oral history. She also had a natural gift for fertility, for what else is so boundless and fruitful as imagination?
She was a goddess of clay and ash and blood and juice and fire and shadow, breathing life into the symbols on the wall, making them move in time with the flicker of the flame and the tone of the stories told.
Mentiad had to be brought in to shatter the skull of the chaos god and allow their daughter out into the world.
In the mortal realm, however, Screwball's birth came with the advent of early cave-ponies recording their world onto the walls, rendering them as stylistic symbols, she grew & developed.

In divine terms, Screwball was born out of the mind of her parent, Discord in an incident that brought new meaning to the term "splitting headache."
