This is funny b/c my Ma dragged me to a Target this week and their pride section was one shelf of leftover pride merch form years prior.
Sports are actually good. All the bad stuff about sports is the same exact thing that’s wrong with everything else right now.
I think every leftist should read the Culture of Narcissism by Christopher Lash. He’s one of those thinkers whose own conservative hang-ups led him astray here and there. But the stuff he’s nails on the head is very useful for grasping what’s happened to us under capitalism.
The whole idea that Aliens watch us, abduct us, and are interested in us is nothing but navel gazing hubris. We’re a bunch of stupid apes who can’t even take care of each other and our planet.
Also. I just don’t know anyone else who’s written about how messed up sports in particular has become under capitalism.

I know the word “narcissism” is a loaded term these days. But this book was written in the 70s and is about what the hyper-individualism of consumer capitalism has done to our collective psyche.

Because someone else pointed it out, I’m gonna say. Lots of Lash’s fans suck ass. If you do resonate with some of what he says, don’t let it turn you into a weirdo. Always strange to me when people take ideas to the furthest conclusion.

When someone asks "does your art use Generative AI" I don't want the answer to be "well we utilized it at an early stage of development trained on ethical datasets internally used by our team of VERY respected human employees" I want the answer to be "No."
