I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend, Emi Koyama (@eminism.org). She was a tremendous activist and prolific writer whose work spanned many fields and impacted many in the U.S., Japan, and elsewhere. Emi was a person with extraordinary warmth. Thank you for everything, Emi.
Her written works, such as "The Transfeminist Manifesto" and "Whose feminism is it anyway?" profoundly impacted me, and also quite a few of my students in Chicago and Bozeman, some of whom were fortunate enough to learn directly from Emi through in-person and online lectures.
With close friends of Emi in Japan, I am compiling a list of Emi's writings in Japanese, along with some in English. Emi's writings in Japanese had a tremendous impact on many readers of Japanese. yamtom.hatenablog.com/entry/2026/0...
One of the important activist works Emi did was the movement to seek justice for former "comfort women." She did tremendous work to fight historical revisionism, wrote multiple articles and book chapters, co-founded FeND, and produced an informative FeND website. fendnow.org
