I have been dreading the particular intersection of medical and gender non-conforming discrimination that we all knew would soon hit intersex people. Of course it's about a teacher's gender history.
I dread watching this go through the courts. It's going to suck. It's probably going to make everybody's life worse for a while. Intersex people did tell you that we'd become collateral in the fight to destroy trans lives.

Gender assignment is in part a medical decision doctors and parents make for infants. This decision is given absurd legal weight. Cases like these raise a question-- why is transition care different from other, protected medical interventions or conditions? When? For who?

I do not have answers to these questions especially in cases like employment discrimination where there can be reasons to consider intersex embodiment both an identity AND a medical condition. But it's not uncommon for intersex people to need to revise their legal birth assignment.
