That old TV trick of making the most famous guest star the killer is really spoiling the new series of Death Valley…
Happy release day to @craigwallwork.bsky.social Got my copy…
Huge congrats to @rjacksonjoseph.bsky.social for her stoker win! Read the Q&A behind that story…
A bonus post this week about the time I edited an anthology by mistake…
This is a great example of the old adage ‘if you don’t like something, you don’t really have to comment.’ Just scroll on. Especially if you’re not part of the conversation; it’s just a few likeminded writers having a natter. And, yes, I’m aware of the irony…😬
A new Hulse read is a must read.
Next up on Behind the Screams is UK indie writer @jameswrights.bsky.social
So, remember how the publisher of Get Free closed down and I found another press to put it out? Well, they just closed… …what can I say, Get Free finally got free!
So thrilled to induct @rjacksonjoseph.bsky.social into Behind the Screams with her forthcoming collection from @quillandcrow.com This Q&A name checks @faylane.bsky.social & @kenyamossdyme.bsky.social

Disappointing that a post started with not wanting to gatekeep writing advice and ended up with extremely gatekeepy comments. Some people write a passable or even a good first draft. Some people don't work that way. Just because a first draft is bad doesn't mean the author should give up on it.

I have a new book out today. If you like heartbreaking, working-class dystopia on your pages as well as in your life then boy do I have a story for you 😅 (Link in comments)

Yeah, I never understood writers who say their first draft is shit. If my first chapter is shit, I give up on it and go to the next idea. What’s the point in persevering with a shit book?
