New birds today! -american kestrel (hunting in the hills on Northerly Island) -long-tailed duck (3 of these rarities floating in the harbor)

New birds today: -Blue-winged teal! Actually I saw these last week but forgot to post. -Pied-billed grebe. I liked this guy Honorable mentions: -saw a red-tailed hawk dive after a mallard in a creek. A Canada goose was also in the scuffle. Didn't seem to get the mallard at all

New birds today: -Red-headed woodpecker! We saw three of them. Honorable mentions: -Got very close to a barred owl. Three were hooting to each other and it pissed off some crows. Friends pic below

New birds today: -ruby crowned kinglet -golden rowned kinglet So cool to see these guys. I'm a little uncertain about the ID of the ruby crowned, but the goldens were singing and hanging out with me for a while :) Honorable mentions: -tree swallows calling and feeding on the wing

New birds today: -northern flicker !!! wow Honorable mentions -wood duck again. Finally got a good long gander at one. What a beautiful bird. -song sparrow; first time hearing them sing. -first time seeing goldfinches in their winter colors
