Spring's palette brightens with the striking Redstart in our #SpringArrivalSpotlight today. π¦
Look out for a quivering orange-red tail as they bob into our woodlands and hedgerows from April.
The DJs of the reedsβ¦ hear the Sedge Warbler's rambling song in todayβs #SpringArrivalSpotlight. π§
Look for their broad creamy eye-stripe and streaked back amidst the reed beds, celebrating their return in April with noisy warbles.
The Whitethroat darts into our #SpringArrivalSpotlight today, arriving from Africa throughout April.
Sporting - you guessed it - white throats, these warblers are widespread summer visitors.
In the #SpringArrivalSpotlight today is the Tree Pipit.
Arriving from late March onwards, these small, brown birds charm us with parachuting flights: launching upwards before gliding to a treetop perch.
Listen out for their buzzy trilling in open woodlands and heathlands. π²
The Guillemot takes the stage in today's #SpringArrivalSpotlight.
These sleek seabirds spend most of their life at sea, returning to our cliffsides in spring, where they nest in bustling colonies.
Watch them diving off high ledges into the sea below! π

π’ Some great news from Orkney!
A new report shows Orkney Vole abundance last spring was the highest it's been since efforts to remove invasive non-native stoats began.
This small, elusive vole is found nowhere else and is threatened by the arrival of stoats (in 2010).
