The incentive structure in Washington is to pretend this is all just turbulence, keep your head down, keep your criticisms contained to small safe gatherings, and keep policy efforts focused on a hypothetical future after 30 more months of events you can’t control.

But stuff like this is nonetheless a deterrent to BAU. It’s the fact you can’t send ships back there and turn the O&G dials back up to full production because you don’t want to risk your ship getting stuck there again.
If you fail to fight back now, and better shape the future you inherit, you’re basically surrendering our destiny to them. And you’ll find keeping your head down just left you a seat at the ash heap remains of the table you dreamt of.
When your transit time is 3 weeks each direction, why would you send a tanker back there if you don’t know whether it’s gonna get trapped again, and miss out on a payload from somewhere else?
With Brent at $80, that reward definitely ain’t worth the risk. Would be another matter at $150+.
This is not a message Dem policy folks want to hear, but our ability to work with Europe and other G7 allies under the next administration depends heavily on treating Trump and his entire administration as hostile occupiers operating against our country’s best interests, and stand up for our allies.
Whether or not the courts overturn the the Trump Administration’s extor—errr…equity stake in Intel, Democrats should make clear this will be treated as null and void by the next administration and returned to shareholders, one way or another.
