Lots of people asking if these are Rainier cherries. We planted the tree more than ten years ago and I can’t remember the variety. They look pale because I pick early to beat the birds. Fully ripe they’re quite red, so maybe not Rainier?

Italian merchant Hieronimus Benalius lived in nearby Seething Lane and died in 1583. Later Samuel Pepys, lived in the same street.

While in London I checked out the memorial plaques to those executed on Tower Hill. Thomas Cromwell, Henry Courtenay and Thomas Wyatt are among the select few named. Around 125 people were executed here between 1485 and 1603.

Katherine Astley’s cousin, uncle and brother were involved in suppressing the uprising.
