Okay. So we did a story very dear to my heart in Uncanny X-Men, about mutants during the Jim Crow era, called THE DARK ARTERY.
It featured a new character named LADY HENRIETTA, and people just took to her in a beautiful way.
They asked for more.

I've got to say I find it really weird to choose to write stories in the genre of sci-fi and then complain about "politics" in sci-fi. Like the genre exists to examine and speculate on humanities relationship to and use of science. That is inherently political no matter what you're doing.
Stop scrolling and post two characters who bring you happiness.
How about just this whole crew.
Food aversions are not a moral failing, and as long as someone is getting enough nutrition (calories, carbs, fats, fiber, and vitamins) there is absolutely nothing wrong with what they are eating (or not eating). Outside pressure can make food aversions significantly worse.
