Dictionary of Irish Biography

Today is the feast day of St Columba (Colum Cille), who according to tradition, wrote the Cathach (RIA MS 12 R 33). This month it will be on display in the @rialibrary.bsky.social on 26 June from 10:00-16:30. Come visit!

Developed in collaboration with Waterford’s Transported Women, A Herstory, Grangegorman Histories, @dri.ie , SETU Library and the RIA IT team, the exhibition brings together digitised archival records, poetry and handcrafted memorials to honour women whose stories have been overlooked.

Today is the feast day of St Columba (Colum Cille), who according to tradition, wrote the Cathach (RIA MS 12 R 33) as a copy of a Latin psalter belonging to St Finnian in a single night. A dispute arose about the ownership of the copy leading to the battle of Cúl Dreimne in AD 561.
