Success! Our LAT board has completed testing and signed off that our equipment is certified to use in the state primary this June. Ballots mail out June 8 to Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Unity Party, and unaffiliated voters! #VoteEarly #VoteJeffco
We made great progress in our LAT today, and as always, our testing board was very thorough! We tested many colors of ink, types of marks, and double-checked all our counts. We're nearly done!
Once all the ballots have been scanned, it’s adjudication time. We’re going to look at every vote the scanners flagged as unclear, unreadable, missing, unexpected, etc. This is where partial marks, slips of the pen, handwritten notes, write-ins, and more get reviewed by a bipartisan team.
Every vote center has ADA-accessible voting machines to help voters with disabilities, and our LAT board is testing these today, too. When you vote on them, they print out your ballot so there’s a paper record. It gets scanned and counted like every other ballot.
Great question and thanks for following along! The specific colors are a recommendation from SOS, which we're happy to follow for county-to-county consistency. Using colored stripes at all is not required, however.
They help enormously with processing, so we use them, but not every ballot will have a colored stripe even in Jeffco. For example, if you vote in-person and use a Ballot Marking Device, those ballots print in black and white, and we use other ways of sorting by party for tabulation.
