Cozy day for some transposon research 🤍❄️

Always a joy to join #EMBOMobileGenome -A week full of cool nature’s quirks and science along the friendliest crowd 🧬 Happy to have shared our work on ERVs in human brain evolution (talk by @jakobssonlab.bsky.social) and Parkinson’s disease (poster by yours truly) đź§

Major career news: I’ve been selected as a CRN Discovery Fellow by @asapresearch.parkinsonsroadmap.org! 🚀
The fellowship funds independently led, collaborative projects in #ParkinsonsDisease, meaning I get the opportunity to continue researching the role of #TransposableElements in #ageing and PD!
I’m truly honored to join the Discovery Fellows, and to continue working with @jakobssonasap.bsky.social and to join #TeamVoet! Thank you @jakobssonlab.bsky.social and Thierry Voet for all your support! I’m thrilled for these following two years 🚀
#EMBOMobileGenome Session 2 on transposon regulation 🧬
➡️'Epigenetic control of transcribed retroelements by the HUSH complex and associated factors' presented by Christopher Douse (Lund University, Sweden)
We love a good Q&A session as well! 🙋🏼

@raquelgarza.bsky.social from the Jakobsson Lab presented our recent work on single-cell omics (transcriptomics+ proteomics) within our ASAP project at the SciLifeLab Lund day. This work is being done in collaboration with #BioMS and @scilifelab.se. We are looking forward to the discoveries ahead 🌟
As part of it, I will soon be relocating to @kuleuvenuniversity.bsky.social to join the fantastic Reproductive Genomics Laboratory at the #LISCO - KU Leuven Institute for Single Cell Omics! đź’«
đź’Ą New preprint! đź’Ą
We show that transposons are directly linked to a cell-type and region specific inflammatory state in Parkinson’s Disease 🧠đź¦
What a team @jakobssonasap.bsky.social! Funded by @asapresearch.parkinsonsroadmap.org

Had an absolute blast presenting my “Last Minute Breakthrough talk” at #EMBOmobilegenome today! 🔥 What an incredible crowd, the energy in the room was unreal. Huge thanks to the organizers for selecting me and to everyone who came, asked questions, and made it such a fun session! 🙌
Thrilled to share our story in its final form! nature.com/articles/s41... 💥 After ~10 years, we show that BMAL1 represses transposons via chromatin regulation in embryonic stem cells—rather than circadian rhythms as in adult tissues.
