A show that has made "fun, nostalgic song over a chill single cut of the characters" into a big part of its identity, ending its saddest episode in an empty room with no music. Very good, very mean
Really appreciated how considered the emotional distance is in her storyboard, and how that translates into the literal position of the camera. It's attentive to the minute gestures of someone going through a traumatic crush, but also makes a point of how isolated & numb he is to everything else
The way the overarching imagery ties into this is lovely. He seeks solace in the comics where his romantic fantasies come true, and that's framed through the fish (octopus) tank that has always soothed him. But when he realizes he wants the real thing, his tears turn the whole world into a fish tank
It doesn't miss a beat when it comes to what they're feeling, but it also makes a point of not being too intrusive with the characters in their most vulnerable moments. While you can always intuit their expressions, that doesn't mean you'll see them in full
Shouko Nakamura's appearances have been sporadic for years, but all it took was another great BL series to get her back on track. Perfect representation of Nakamura-kun's adaptation angle, taking ideas from the charming yet disconnected comic and imbuing the whole thing with much more pathos
Out of all cool, unexpected-despite-leaks things at the Nintendo Direct, the one that actually dislocated my ribcage is the EOSD remaster. I could have never been ready for this randomly dropping during a huge event. Touhou is forever www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ayn...
