It doesn’t help that games like Dave the Diver, extremely well funded and lavishly produced games, share the indie label with stuff like Need a Packet or fucking Mothmen: 1966 - genuinely shoestring projects that don’t get any publicity because they’re not indie in a marketable way

I get the intention behind social media bans but unless the government is gonna also mandate free, all-weather third spaces and access to safe communities for queer and trans kids, I don’t think it will solve the problem it’s intended to solve
I think when folks gesture at this idea, that indies are just waiting to swoop in, they’re gesturing at the folkloric stories of creators like Concerned Ape, “solo” creatives who triumph against the odds to produce enormous successes. I don’t know where to start with that
