Episode 228 of R Weekly Highlights is out! serve.podhome.fm/episodepage/... 📄Quarto on GitLab @nrennie.bsky.social 🛠️Functions over Idioms @jonocarroll.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gy 📦{muttest} @jakub-sobolewski.bsky.social h/t @mike-thomas.bsky.social @jonocarroll.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gy 🙏 #rstats
The rfuns package is live on pypi (my very first python package) and includes python-native functions with the same name and functionality as many common base R functions; great for quickly doing something in the REPL, not intended for production use
I don't post on here usually (find me on Mastodon) but given that I'm actively seeking a new role, the more reach the better. I keep trying to use R functions like table() and which() when I'm writing Python but those don't exist... until now jcarroll.com.au/2026/05/22/f...
I'm on the lookout for new opportunities to contribute to R tooling. If your org needs help developing/productionising an R pkg or R code, managing data access via db or API, or translating to/from R, let's discuss. All timezones supported. My services: jcarroll.com.au/page/services/

Perhaps you saw the post series "Python is not a great language for data science"... well, here's Haskell IS a Great Language for Data Science https://jcarroll.com.au/2025/12/05/haskell-is-a-great-language-for-data-science/ #haskell :haskell: #rstats :rstats:
w00t! - jarl can now run a linter to see if you've accidentally left a browser() in your #rstats code https://jarl.etiennebacher.com/rules/browser (my small contribution) I'm super excited about (crazy fast) Rust tooling making development smoother across other languages.
Mastodon is definitely my go-to social media at this point, but I was disappointed in the presence at a recent tech event so here I am.
#introduction post: I'm Jonathan Carroll, known around the sites as jonocarroll but mainly fosstodon.org/@jonocarroll I'm mostly #rstats but learning #haskell, #julia, #rust, #APL, and #python. I work remotely from #australia and I blog at jcarroll.com.au Also learning #japanese and #tokipona
