Riddell uncovers that salamanders from different elevations achieve similar plastic responses through distinct molecular mechanisms, offering new insight into how populations may respond (or fail to respond) to environmental change. Read now ahead of print! www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Really nice memoriam to Robert Ricklefs by Brian McGill: dynamicecology.wordpress.com/2026/06/11/r... Ricklefs got ecologists to think big: about the role of history, biogeography & macroevolution on ecological patterns. More than anyone, his work shaped the course of my career.

To see how important US science is, consider measurements of changes in ocean heat content. US data are ~53% of the total. Over half! But removing the US data is worse than randomly removing 80% of the total data, because unlike other countries, the US makes measurements everywhere. 🧪🌊

Unexpected expansion and regrowth in Earth’s mangrove forests over the past four decades
International collaboration has facilitated a global ocean observing system, providing data to measure ocean heat content at a resolution that enables the tracking of climate change. This study looks ...
Global mangrove forests have disappeared rapidly because of deforestation but have also regrown through natural regeneration and restoration. Yet their long-term trends in extent and canopy cover rema...
