Thank you for the invaluable mentorship and guidance @sandrareuter.bsky.social
A few years ago we asked an important public health question:What is the quality of household water in municipal Ibadan, Nigeria?
The initial study revealed the water sources did not meet the bacteriological standards, raising deeper questions on the genomic characteristics of E.coli in the water.
New paper out in MGen @microbiologysociety.org from Team TAPIR - Tracking Acquisition of Pathogens In Real-time: How do we deal with contamination in metagenomic samples?

๐ฃOur latest paper is out now in mSystems: Not quite as it may seem - investigating #plasmid diversity and evolution in #Klebsiella pneumoniae at a single institution over time. A short thread ๐งต @zaminiqbal.bsky.social
Both studies emphasize the link between water quality and the spread of AMR, highlighting the importance of environmental surveillance in tackling AMR.
Sincerely grateful to my PI @iruka-okeke.bsky.social, supervisor, partner and all collaborators on this project.
First paper of this year is out now! ๐ข
Very happy to present work with my collaborators Andrew Whitelaw and Mae Newton-Foot and especially great work from PhD student Kedisaletse Moloto at Stellenbosch University: journals.plos.org/plospathogen...
We are pleased to share with you our new study, where we explored the diversity, AMR and the pathogenic potential of E. coli isolated from water sources in municipal Ibadan. The results revealed: multidrug resistant and potentially pathogenic strains across different water sources and LGAs.
