Yesterday, An Garda Síochána announced the extension of the taser pilot to the end of the year, and expansion to Limerick.
Statistics show that tasers have only been used 15 times during the pilot, raising serious questions about whether the introduction of tasers is warranted in Irish policing.
I was delighted to speak to this on LMFM this morning. An Garda Síochána should immediately publish the parameters for the pilot, which should include a presumption against taser use on children and other vulnerable populations.
