Eigenlijk ben ik geen fan van (bloem)stillevens maar dit werk van Jan Davidsz de Heem uit 1670 is wel erg knap geschilderd. In het boeket (even inzoomen!) kruipen en gonzen meerdere insecten. Ook die schilderde De Heem heel nauwkeurig.

🏛️🕒This Thursday, June 18th, we have limited opening hours at the Mauritshuis due to a private event. The museum is open from 15:00 until 18:00. Our Prince William V Gallery is open as usual, from 12:00 until 17:00.

👩‍🎨💐This bouquet has seen better days. The flowers are drooping and starting to fade. In the middle, a wilted opium poppy has been cut off, leaving behind a tiny droplet of moisture. The empty space left there lends depth to the bouquet. Rachel Ruysch, Vase with Flowers, 1700

This small painting, on display at the Mauritshuis in The Hague forms a pair with a fruit still life. Together, they are unique in the oeuvre of Jan van Huysum who primarily painted large and lavish bouquets . Van Huysum's still lifes were popular – he was one of the best-paid painters of his time.
