Hello world! Kicking off my first post with some exciting news 📣 Our study on tobacco smoke-induced mutagenesis in head & neck cancer (HNC) is out today in
@naturegenet.bsky.social! rdcu.be/efNiH 🧬🔥
We uncover the multiple ways tobacco and alcohol drive HNC development. A short thread 🧵⬇️

Very excited to share our new paper on the influence of biological sex and smoking in the clonal landscape of normal human bladder, just published in Nature.
A big thank you and congrats to all the authors, specially to @raquelbmi.bsky.social for all the shared efforts in this journey!

So grateful to all the entire team, especially Jaume Mora, Sara Sánchez-Molina and Carla Ríos at @sjdhospitalbarcelona.org as well as collaborators!
Today our colleague Bet Figuerola @efigbo.bsky.social , presented her work on the genomics analysis of a singular cancer patient at the Node Seminar session of #IRBBarcelona.
Genomics helps us to understand the origins and evolution of cancer contributing to knowledge with possible clinical impact.

Abstract. Ewing Sarcoma (EwS) is a highly aggressive tumor arising in bones and soft tissues driven by the fusion oncoprotein EWSR1::FLI1. This aberrant transcription factor binds to GGAA microsatelli...
KDM6A and KDM6B mediate critical mechanisms behind EWSR1::FLI1 transcriptional activation program involving demethylase-independent and dependent functions, respectively, supporting the development of...

Sex and smoking bias in the selection of somatic mutations in human bladder

🧬 Investigadores de @sjdhospitalbarcelona.org y del @crg.eu identifican nuevas dianas terapéuticas para el sarcoma de Ewing, un cáncer pediátrico muy agresivo.

Sex bias and association with smoking history identified in the landscape of driver mutations and clonal expansions in normal human bladder tissue may explain the higher bladder cancer risk in men and smokers.
Los resultados del estudio abren la puerta a desarrollar fármacos que inhiban específicamente las dos enzimas que activan genes relacionados con este cáncer.
