I really dislike the 'No one has thought about X' as a means for justifying research. It always feels so myopic - these claims are almost never actually true. Why not focus on what YOU are doing, rather than on what 'others' have not done? This is a much more generous approach.
Painfully accurate. I'm lucky to be at a place where this isn't true. But so many of my friends and colleagues are working under impossibly stressful conditions.
