It's not morality or ethics that brings down tyrants. Nor is it the will of the people, despite their wishful thinking. They're brought down by the sheer inefficiency of their own systems. No one had to blow up the Death Star. The upkeep would have bankrupted the Empire on its own.
One advantage of being an old man is that one can completely disregard all sense of fashion. Hawaiian shirt with suspenders? Socks and flip flops? Yellow shirt and plaid pants? Meh, he's an old man, this is normal. Just be glad he still remembers to wear pants at all.
Do you think Viktor Orban has thought about anything for the last six months other than how he's going to rig the election? Think of all the time, money and energy that Republicans spend trying to destroy democracy that could have been spent doing actual government functions.
I spend a lot of time muting and blocking ($tribe) activist types. This is not because I have any direct grievance with ($tribe); in fact I probably support ($tribe). But when all they ever talk about is the grievances of ($tribe) they become BORING and life is too short to suffer boring people.
In the Furiosa movie, our protagonist first meets Immortan Joe when she's about twelve years old. He says that once she's old enough that she could become one of his wives. Thus, Immortan Joe is less of a sex creep than Trump. At least he waited until she was legal. The bar really is that low.
"No more!" said the tiger.
Bring me my nanobots.
The tech & utility companies could pay for it themselves and it would cost you nothing. But they don't, because they don't have to, because politicians offer them sweet deals. Remember that when you hear a politician whining about data centers. Who's the real problem, here?
What authoritarians never grasp is that the law of diminishing returns applies to power. The more power one has, the more of that power must be expended to just maintain your power. Putin probably spends 23.5 hours a day thinking about how to not end up assassinated rather than running his country.
You know how when a politician wants a company to move into their district, they'll offer said company a sweet deal. Lower taxes, cheap land, etc? That's the actual way that data centers can drive up bills. Politicians changing the rules so that you pay for the upgrades to the grid instead of them.
