That, too, hints at the appeal of FLEET OF GHOSTS aside from the superb world building and distinctive characters. The central story itself combines action, adventure and discovery in the most intriguing way. It’s completely engrossing. 8/10
That hints at the wonderful world building in FLEET OF GHOSTS. It’s not just a “warship explores strange world” story. There are many factions involved. The challenges are not just exploratory; there are military and political considerations as well. Not to mention survival. 7/10
(And to be clear: Yes, I have been collecting these books for a while now. And yes, it does trigger my OCD that I have them in varying formats.) 5/10
I’m about halfway through FLEET OF GHOSTS, the first book in the SCOUT CADRE spinoff of Taylor Anderson's long-running DESTROYERMEN series…and I have some thoughts. 1/10
I’m only halfway through FLEET OF GHOSTS and it’s already a standout book. It’s military alternate-history is appealing and the story evokes the sense of wonder that draws me to sf in the first place. 9/10
This is my 1st foray into the DESTROYERMEN series. It’s been on my radar for some time due to its interesting premise: a WWII Destroyer is transported to an alternate Earth where dinosaurs still exist & alternate species (cat-like Lemurians & reptilian Grik) are at war. 2/10
The “stuff I missed” in the previous books is masterfully given in reasonably-sized info dumps and lots of passing comments along the way. It’s enough background to enjoy the current story *and* makes me want to read book 1 all the more. 4/10
Here's more info about Taylor Anderson's FLEET OF GHOSTS. Check it out! It's available right now. www.penguinrandomhou... 10/10
FLEET OF GHOSTS itself is about an exploratory mission to find ships missing after a mysterious burst of light in the Pacific Ocean--although if any former enemy asks during this uneasy post-war peace, it’s a training school ship. 6/10

With such a story-rich premise, how could I possibly enjoy it jumping in at book 20? Quite easily, it turns out. Here’s why… 3/10
